The Dominion of Sin and Darkness

In this episode of Making Great Saints, we see a very dark and dismal picture caused by the destruction of sin in human life. It starts with the first sin of Adam and Eve. We see the sharp contrast from their life before and after God expels them from the garden. What was once a harmonious life with God, themselves, and each other, now becomes a life that will include pain and suffering.

To the woman [God] said: I will intensify your toil in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children…To the man [God] said: Cursed is the ground because of you! In toil you shall eat its yield all the days of your life…By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, from which you were taken.

Genesis 3:16-17,19

In Adam and Eve’s children, we see the continuation of the destruction of sin. Anger and envy spur Cain to commit the first murder after Cain’s offering was rejected by the Lord.

With original sin firmly planted in man’s heart and the example and residual effects of continual sin passed down, God saw “how great the wickedness of human beings was on earth, and how every desire that their heart conceived was always nothing but evil” (Genesis 6:5).

Fortunately, God had found favor in a righteous man named Noah (GN 6:8), whom He would save and use in His plan of salvation to restore His creation to His image and likeness.
